Amy Neville and Kristin Bride became close friends after a very sad day in 2020. On the same day, their teenage sons died because of problems linked to social media. Alexander, 14, bought a dangerous pill from a drug dealer he met on Snapchat. Carson, 16, died after people bullied him online for a long time. Now the two mothers work together to help make the internet safer for children. On June 23 this year, they held a memorial for their sons in Washington, D.C., with the families of 270 other young people who also died because of online dangers. They hope June 23 will become Social Media Victims Remembrance Day.
Some countries have made new rules to protect children from social media. In the United States, some courts have ruled against big technology companies. The mothers hope these decisions will help protect more children in the future.
