Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has died after a major attack by the United States and Israel. He was 86 years old. Iranian state TV said he died on Feb. 28. U.S. President Donald Trump announced his death earlier and said it gave the Iranian people a chance to “ take back ” their country.
The attack included heavy airstrikes on Iran’s military and government buildings. Trump said the bombing would continue as long as needed.
This is the second time in eight months that the U.S. has attacked Iran while the two countries were talking about Iran’s nuclear program.
Khamenei had led Iran for many years and had the final say on big decisions. Because no new leader has been chosen yet, his death may cause confusion and make the Middle East unstable.
