Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers won his fourth Major League Baseball MVP award on Nov. 13.
The 31-year-old is a rare two-way player, meaning he both pitches and hits at a top level. He was unanimously chosen as the National League MVP, earning all 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Ohtani has now won the MVP for three years in a row, starting in 2023 when he played for the Los Angeles Angels in the American League. He is the first player to win three straight MVPs since Barry Bonds, who won four in a row from 2001 to 2004.
Ohtani said winning the award is an honor and comes from working hard with his team. His four MVPs put him in second place for the most MVP awards in history, just behind Bonds’ seven.
