Hamas released all 20 living hostages on Oct. 13 as part of a truce after two years of war with Israel in Gaza. People in Tel Aviv cheered as the final 13 hostages returned after the first seven arrived earlier that day.
At the same time, Israel freed over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners who went back to the West Bank and Gaza. More food and supplies are expected to reach Gaza, where many people lost their homes.
The exchange of hostages and prisoners is seen as a big step toward peace. U.S. President Donald Trump, who helped make the truce possible, called it “a great day” and said it was a new beginning for peace between Israel and Hamas.
