King Charles has called for mutual respect and understanding after racist riots targeting Muslims and migrants in Britain. The king welcomed the way that community groups had countered “the aggression and criminality from a few,” a spokesman said.

The riots broke out across the country after a knife attack on July 29 killed three young girls. Online posts wrongly said the suspected killer was an Islamist migrant. A teenager, who was born in Britain, has since been charged. Police say the incident is not terrorism.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the protests “far-right thuggery.” Police and politicians believe the speedy, tough response from the authorities, as well as thousands of people attending counter-protests since July 31, have stopped people from taking part in further riots.
