Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Feb. 28 meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump went badly. The two leaders clashed in front of the media during their Oval Office meeting.

Zelenskyy wanted to use the meeting to convince the U.S. not to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine three years ago. However, Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Zelenskyy, saying he was disrespectful.

The meeting became tense when Vance said diplomacy was needed to end the war. Zelenskyy replied that Putin could not be trusted and noted that Vance had never visited Ukraine.

Zelenskyy openly challenged Trump over his softer approach toward Putin, urging him to “make no compromises with a killer.”
