Tokyo court strips Unification Church of religious corporation status The Tokyo District Court on March 25 ruled that the Unification Church should lose its tax-exempt religious status due to its aggressive donation practices. The case began after Shinzo Abe’s assassination and took 1½ years. Losing this status will hurt the group’s finances and reputation. However, it can still operate and continue its activities. World's glaciers are losing record ice Glaciers worldwide are melting faster than ever, with the last three years seeing record ice loss, a UNESCO report says. Since 1975, 9,000 gigatons of ice have melted — equal to a 25-meter-thick ice block the size of Germany. Climate change is making the problem worse, causing rising sea levels and water shortages, which could lead to serious environmental and economic issues. White House mistakenly shares war plans with journalist Top U.S. officials accidentally shared war plans in a messaging group that included a journalist before attacking Yemen’s Houthis, the White House said. Democratic lawmakers called it a security breach needing investigation. The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, said in a report that he was unexpectedly invited on March 13 to a chat group on the Signal messaging app called the "Houthi PC small group." In the group, national security adviser Mike Waltz told his deputy to form a team for the planned attack. Ishiba’s approval ratings continue to fall Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s approval ratings dropped after he gave ¥1.5 million in gift vouchers to party members. This has raised doubts about his leadership before the summer election. A Kyodo News poll showed his approval fell to 27.6%, down 12 points. A TV Asahi poll showed a drop to 29.2%, down 8.3 points. Japan upgrades passports with new forgery-proof features Japan has made passport applications easier while improving security to prevent forgery. Since March 24, new passports have a redesigned plastic page that combines the photo and IC chip. Personal details are laser-printed using advanced techniques, making them harder to fake. The new passports also feature three pictures, with a special printing method that reveals the date of birth at certain angles. Current passports remain valid until expiration.
